Day of Love 2008

Sri Lankathara Elders home is a place where we do our annual projects and it provides shelter for around 25 elders. But this time we decided to do the project differently with more value added to it. The elders home needed man power to clean the premises and the old generation certainly longs for love and affection. So as Leos we were up to the task.

Our Leos gathered at 9am, divided our work force and started to clean the premises. We cleaned the rooms, shrine room and the garden of the elders’ home. The cleaning session culminated successfully at 12 pm.

At 3pm we started the entertainment session. We arranged all the multimedia, speakers needed for it. Our Leos entertained the inhabitants of the home with their singing talents and dramas. Elders also staged a stunning drama and sang songs. Many games such as Musical chair, puzzle assembling, ect were organized for the elders, in which our Leos also took part. As the event progressed, children of the home also joined the entertainment session. We served the short eats, which our Leos had made at their homes to the elders and children. The event culminated with a DJ, in which the elders, children and Leos had a very good time.

We care

SriLankathara children’s home shelters around 50 school children who are missing parental care. As Leos we have the obligation of helping such organizations with their valuable service. So with the help of one of our parent we provided lunch for all the children at the orphanage.

With the sponsorship of one of our Leo, we arranged to provide lunch to 50 children in the orphanage. We arranged a transport means to bring the cooked food to the orphanage at 12.30pm.

Our Leos arranged the hall at the orphanage to accommodate all the children and served them the food and sweets that we brought. We were very much satisfied after the project, as we were able to witness the happiness in the faces of the children, since they have tasted food item and sweets which are totally different from their daily food

Leo Identity cards

We printed quality Leo identity cards for 22 active Leos of our club as a proof and identity for them to introduce themselves proudly as Leos of Leo club of Colombo Circle to the society.

We had faced many situations in the past where our members didn’t possess anything to prove that they are Leos when required while doing project and other activities. Further we thought it was a good idea because it would give enormous publicity for the Leo movement and our club. It would also add an element of professionalism, which would coincide with our theme for this year ‘Strive for perfection’.

Leo identity cards were provided to our members during our installation ceremony by the president of Leo club of Colombo Circle.

Leo Heart to Heart 2008

Shanthi illam in Ratmalane, is a home for orphans and children from needy families. All these children are students of Ratmalane Hindu College. In accordance of our theme “Smile” we thought of organizing this mega scale project, which is totally different from the customary orphanage visits that are usually done.

We got the contacts of a renowned South Indian music director Mr. Singam, when he came to Sri Lanka. Mr. Singam being the chief guest for the event we organized a musical concert and fun evening for the children at Shanti illam. Mr. Singam sang many famous songs, while playing the music himself, upon the request of the children. Many young buds in the home also got their life time opportunity to sing for the music of a famous music director.

Later on many games were organized, which was conducted by Mr. Singam himself, which was a fun filled experience not only for the children but also for the Leos and visitors. At about 9pm we provided dinner for all the children and teachers of the home. The event culminated with a happy note with a DJ, in which all Leos and children danced together. This event was certainly an unforgettable experience for the children and a heart touching event for all the Leos.

Leo Environmental Glory

In the present world context it’s essential that every person should think about the environmental crisis such as Global warming, ozone depletion etc. So we decided to release a booklet about the environment crisis in the name of Environmental Glory. As Leos it’s essential for us to do our best for the betterment of the world. It’s a victory for the project chairperson and our Leos if this project had conveyed it’s message for at least a few people.

The Environmental glory was released on the 20th of July during our installation ceremony in front of our Leos, Prospects, Lions, parents and visiting Leos.

The first copy was given to the district president and the second copy to our Leo advisor. We are quite certain that this project was a benefit for the community

Installation of Leo club of Colombo Circle 2008/2009

The installation ceremony of Leo club of Colombo Circle was held on the 20^th of July 2008. Leos decorated the Tamil Sangam hall with stunning stuffs and welcomed the chief guest, district president Leo S.Thirruparan, Guest of Honour Lion Alehendren, guest of honour Parent Lions club president Lion Selvaraj, club’s Leo advisor Lion Kulendren, Leos from the district council, visiting Leos, Lions and parents.

Apart from the official stuff, the highlight of the day was the magic show that was performed by one of our prospects. Leos who worked with commitment during the last fiscal year were honoured and the Leo glory- Installation edition was released by the editor.

District conference 2007/2008

Leo district installation is one of the most awaited events in the Leo calendar. This year the conference was conducted at the NDB auditorium on the 6^th of July.

This year Leo club of Colombo Circle was crowned as the Most outstanding club of the district 206B2 for the second successive time.

Leo Helping hand

Millennium Institute, Dehiwale is a school for children with special needs. Upon request by the school, we helped them in organizing and conducting the annual sports meet of the school.

Leos of Leo club of Colombo Circle arranged the sports meet and scheduled it in the morning. Announcements were given in the papers and radio about the sports meet, which attracted many visitors to the sports meet and brought in a lot of donations for the school from the public. In the morning we helped the teachers of the school in providing transport for the children to bring them to the venue. We also brought the requested items required for the sports meet.

The event started at 9am, since then we helped the teachers to conduct the sports meet according to the agenda. Many events for the children were arranged, in which the children participated with excitement. The event culminated at 12.30pm with the prize giving ceremony. Our Leos had a satisfaction in witnessing the smile in those young, tender faces and it was an experience that neither the children nor our Leos could forget.
