Leo camping (District event)

18th, 19th, 20th of April 2008-05-12





This was one of the most expected events in the Leo calendar. This year the camping took place in Kithulgalle, a jungle surrounded area along the bank of Keleni river. 9 leos from our district participated in it. Leos of our district were divided into 2 teams and took part in many thrilling and challenging events such as jungle expedition, raft building & rawing, challenge 20 feet dive, camp fire, drama competition and many more.


Leos enjoyed swimming in the Kelani River in the evening. Sleeping in wooden cottages was an new experience for the leos. Bylla and singing continued all throughout the night.

Camping not only was a fun filled experience, but also moulded our character and gave us the confidence to live and survive adverse conditions, to work as a team to a unified victory, to care and share with others.

Leo program on Lions convention

10th May 2008




Lion’s convention for the year 2007 – 2008 was held at BMICH on the 10th and on the 11th of May. All Leo clubs from the district 306B2 participated in the program. Leo quiz, fashion show, drama competition were the key features of the Leo convention. Leo club of Colombo Circle actively participated in all three competitions. Colombo circle achieved first place in the quiz competition and showed their optimum performance in the fashion show and drama competition.

Leo Dental camp

14th May 2008






A dental camp was organized by the Leo club of Colombo circle at the Ramakrishna School at panandura. It was small school with fewer facilities, and with around 250 students.
Doctors from the Colombo dental hospital brought all their equipments for the dental camp. All students of the students were tested, and for our astonishment we learnt that some students have never undergone medical checkups before and they were in immediate dental treatment. This turned out to be another valuable project by the Leo club of Colombo circle.

Leo leadership seminar

3^rd March 2008; 11.00a.m – 1.30p.m.

It’s very essential that advanced level students have a good guidance about developing their career since they are in a stage of deciding their career as their school days are coming an end. So as a moral boost for their career we organized this career development seminar and Leadership programme at the Hindu College auditorium for advanced level students. We invited two eminent speakers who had immense experience in career development. Mr. Ajith Rohanne Collone and Mr,Thananjaye Hettiarachy(Toast masters – South asia’s best speaker 2007) gave a life time experience to the school students.

Leo Get2Gether and Goodbye 2007

30th December 2007; 5.00p.m – 9.15p.m.

This is an annual event which every Leo expects. Since board members felt that the club needs build more understanding among members as the membership has risen up than ever before. So the club decides to organize get together and New-Year celebrations at the same time.

Some Parents too took part. Then Dinner arranged to all Leos. In the DJ, we found some new dancing talents among the Leos. It was successful event since we make Leos warm up to do wonderful social services projects in upcoming year.

Smiling christmas with children

25th December 2007; 3.00p.m – 6.30p.m.

Christmas is one of the festivals which most people in the world celebrate. Though we do not follow Christianity, we planned to celebrate the Christmas for the children who are not fortunate enough to celebrate festivals due to various reasons. So our club decided to celebrate Xmas for some of these children.

We selected the Sri Lankadhara society home for children where we used to visit entertain those children. After the Lunch we went to Children home with short eats, biscuits, sweets and yogurts. As soon as the children saw our faces children started to cheer and shouted in happiness.

They came and jump in to our hands played with us. We also brought a Santa with which is one of our member dressed as Santa Clauses. He then served biscuits, short eats and chocolates. Children were very happy and started to play Santa.

Smile cricket fiesta

23rd December 2007; 9.00a.m – 5.30p.m.

This event was as the club understood the importance of building strong relationships with Parent Lions club and Not only with Leo advisor but even with every Lion of the Parent club. New Leos were not having much opportunity to interact with Lions. So our club decided to create a chance for them and to have get-together of Lions, Leos, Lion Family members and Leo Family members.

As a result of our planning, we organized this get together and cricket match which is named as Smile Cricket Fiesta. We started Cricket tournament with five teams which included Lions, Leos, Lion Ladies, children of Lions. As the match went on, we also kept lots of fun games, where Lots Lions, Lion Ladies and girls participated. Carom, Darts, Balloon Challenge, Water filling and other lots of games took place. All who participated in the events thrilled with joy and cheer.

Leo talent search

2nd December 2007; 9.00a.m – 4.30p.m.

Talent Search is an annual event which is organized for District Council of District 306B2. This event is held as the talent contest among the Leos and Leo clubs in District. Main purpose of this programme is to bring out the unseen potentials and talents. While serving the purpose, it also helps to build good relationships among the clubs.

Active clubs in the districts gathered on the day. They took part in almost all the competitions. Eight different categories contests were kept. Solo singing, Solo Instrumental play, Ads 2007 and Impromptu Speech are some of them.

Smile sight first

3rd November 2007; 12.30p.m – 5.00p.m.

This is an annual and continuous Project which our parent Lions Club and our Leo Club jointly organize every year. On the day we Leos joined together and bought dry rations on our own expense and prepared 26 packs to donate to the visually challenged people. Our Parent club provided the white canes to be given to them.

The entire event started with Lunch and then we had a parade where our Leos helped and guided the visually handicapped through busy main roads. This gained a good publicity to the Leos among the society.

First aid camp

25th October 2007; 9.30a.m – 12.45p.m.

First aid is an important aspect of Medical Aids which every one should know. It is very important because it will help to serve many lives in adverse and urgent situations before getting or seeking proper treatment. Our club planned that every Leo in Colombo Circle Club should know about first aid and also be able to handle difficult situations.

Then Guest speaker started with interesting stories by grapping the attention of the audience. First he explained how to analyze or find out what happened to a patient when patient is in unconscious state. Then he with his assistant dramatically acted out and showed how to handle a real situation.
