In one of the Civil Engineering company at Kaduvela, internally displaced students are trained on civil engineering. A leo of our club was a trainer there and via him we came to know that they were looking for funds to celebrate Christmas with that less fortunate children. Many of our friends too came forward in contributing for this project

Our Leos went to the venue in the morning and decorated the place with the help of others who were there. The program started at 10 am, with a huge gathering of students and staff. Our Leos coordinated the event very successfully. There were many programs done by the students. We provided them lunch and the events continued after the lunch too. The students sang songs, performed drama and did some dance too. Our leos also joined them in singing songs. Then in the evening we served them cake, eats and tea.

The event culminated with Christmas gifts being presented for the students, which of course would have been an unforgettable gift for them. This event was certainly an unforgettable project for all our Leos, as they made <<30>> unfortunate students smile and enjoy the day. We went home with great satisfaction and happiness.

Multiple Leo districts 306 organized a walk in Colombo for the betterment of Leoism, to make the public aware of Leoism.

Hundreds of Leos from many Leo clubs in Sri Lanka joined hands to mark this event. Unfortunately weather cheated us. Due to heavy rain we couldn’t start the walk. Then we moved to the lions avtivity center and had several progeams there. The main intention of this walk was to commemorate international Leo day, give publicity for Leoism and make the public aware of the strength of Leoism in Sri Lanka. This time the theme for the walk was “Green Together”. The reason for choosing this theme was to make the people aware of the importance of green and trees.

We, as the organizers of this project took care of the refreshments and made sure all the Leos actively participated in the event. As we moved to the Lions activity centre we had camp fire there. Each district presented an event. It was very interesting and enjoyable. Then at the end of the camp fire the club with the highest participation and the district with the highest participation were given tokens of appreciation. After the camp fire DJ night and dinner continued till about 11.00 pm. All the leos had a fantastic time on that day.

HOPE IT Seminar

Information Technology is a newly introduced subject in the Sri Lankan GCE advanced level syllabus. Due to scarcity of trained teachers, many children find it very difficult to study the subject. As Leos we thought it is our duty to do our best for our younger brothers and sisters regarding this problem.

Our members went for various tuition centers and informed the students about the seminar. They displayed some notices in the notice boards of those institutes also. As there are many IT graduates and IT professional in our club itself, we planned to conduct the seminar using our resources. On the 22nd morning our members were came to tamil sanagam by 8.45 am. We were able to start the seminar by 9.30 am as there was some delay in the students’ attendance. As the GIT syllabus is very vast, selected only the key areas to give them an idea about the topics. We also provided them with some sample question and model answers. Then we also had a Q&A session in which our resource personals cleared the doubts of the students. We also prepared the tutorials by ourselves based on the Sri Lankan GCE advanced Level IT syllabus and issued them for the students free of charge.

This seminar helped the students to clarify their problems and get more knowledge on the subject areas. It was very much useful for them as it was conducted one week before their GIT exams. We are intending to continue doing this seminar in other areas of Colombo and also for GCE ordinary level students as well.

HOPE Move Green Project

Current life styles of people are not promising since the environment is heading to the disaster. As a club we were thinking of a way of giving a message of serving the nature to the society. Then our vice president came up with a nice idea of having a monthly tree planting campaign.

Club made the plans more sharply and clearly so as to do the tree planting campaign monthly. This was initiated from August onwards. On every last week of the month this project was carried out. We started the initial tree planting at Arun Shanthi Nivas Home.

The club members took some plats when visiting the home. With the help of the people who were in charge of the home gardening process we successfully planted few trees there. As we started this at children’s home, it also helped us make awareness among those children to save green.
